BOOKS Databases

The catalog for the books in the DESY libraries is maintained by use of the integrated library system Aleph and may be searched using the ALEPH OPAC .

The SPIRES BOOKS database is maintained in parallel, with the new entries to the Aleph catalog being copied to BOOKS weekly.
SPIRES BOOKS is offered because of the partly complementary or superior search capabilities of Spires and because of its closer similarity to the other SPIRES Databases.

The SPIRES database language is explained in a Search guide and search helps for the HEP database can be found in the corresponding HEP Search Manual
Take the time to look at the alphabetic keyword list of HEP and its user guide.

At the present time the following databases ( except for BOOKS, mirrored from SLAC ) are within the SPIRES system :

HEP: The High Energy Physics bibliographic database.
BOOKS: The online catalog of the books available in the various branches of the DESY Library.
BOOKS-Hamburg: Same as BOOKS, but searching is restricted to the stock in Hamburg.
BOOKS-Zeuthen: Same as BOOKS, but searching is restricted to the stock in Zeuthen.
ABSTRACT: Abstracts obtained from the LANL preprint arXiv.
CONFERENCES: Database of HEP-related conferences.
INSTITUTIONS: Institution database.
EXPERIMENTS: Database of current and former experiments on high energy physics.
