The ship shown in the picture was donated to the Hansa Merchants' Union by Simon van Utrecht about 1500 AD. In return he was granted citizenship by the

   "Free and Hansa City of Hamburg"

The ship was operated to protect the Hansa cargo lines from Hamburg to Amsterdam and London on which ships were often attacked by pirates.
