DESY-Logo SPIRES search form - why more lines

The multiline form opens the full power of SPIRES to the user (except for UNIX shell commands   and output from SPIRES to disk, i.e. commands OUT / OUTPUT and IN ACTIVE ... ,  which are explicitely inhibited).

Examples :

  1. Sort the result as you prefer, using the sequence command, e.g. by collaboration (ascending order) and then by report number (descending order)   in HEP.
    find t neutralino and r cern-ep#
    seq cn r(D)
  2. Choose a different display format , e.g. brief in HEP.
Hint:   show formats  gives a list of all available formats.
    set format wwwbriefhtml
    find a schreiber and date >= 99
  3. Display fields of your choice in the result, e.g. the unique system (internal reference) number IRN, the first author FA, and all report numbers R   in HEP.
Note : You must set the number of records to be displayed to 0
Note : to suppress any default output  (line 3. in the form)
    find t macho and waves
    type IRN FA R
Another way of doing it :
(Here the number of records to be displayed is irrelevant)
    find t macho and waves
    set ele IRN FA R
  4. Execute a predefined query stored in some file in AFS disk space,   e.g. the file /afs/desy.de/user/p/preisner/public/que contains 3 queries to the HEP database
                           fin fa preissner
                           and dk talk
                           typ
fin fa bodek and t f2
                           typ
fin k belle and date >= last month-6

    Note that
    use /afs/desy.de/user/p/preisner/public/que
    xeq
    Try it right now

  5. SPIRES's explain facility often displays a multiple choice list (numbered) and asks : Which number ?
Simply enter your choice in line 2,   e.g.
    exp date
    6
  6. Your example may appear here, if you have a nice one
