DESY-Logo SPIRES keywords are not words

The keywords in the HEP and DESY BOOKS databases are often not single words, but a sequence of words. A sequence of words is indexed just as this sequence and can only be searched as this sequence.

Titles, on the other hand, are split into single words and indexed as single words and can only be searched by single words. However, an automatism in SPIRES allows to search for a sequence of words in titles by hiddenly inserting a boolean AND between the words in sequence, e.g.
find title accelerator control system   is passed to search as
find title accelerator and control and system

( and therefore their order is irrelevant (commutative) ).

The keywords in HEP are often given in pairs, separated by   ", ",
e.g. accelerator, control system . Such a combination of keywords causes 3 entries to the keyword index :
1 . the whole string          accelerator, control system
  2 . the part before ", "     accelerator
  3 . the part after ", "      control system
and can be searched for in these 3 ways.
Note : The keyword index in HEP has been redesigned in July 2004 and the former index (described on this page) is now named DESY-KEYWORD, alias DK, HEP-TOPIC, TOPIC, TP.
Therefore, in the table below, keyword should be replaced by desy-keyword for HEP.

The keywords in BOOKS are additionally passed to the index WORD, with the mechanism of title indexing, and can be found word by word via find word ...

Example :
Assume a book / article has the title Methods of accelerator control,
the keyword accelerator, control system   in HEP,
the keyword accelerator control system   in BOOKS.
